Borgvik Museum – The History of the Ironworks

Borgvik Museum tells the story of the industries and activities that shaped Borgvik for generations. The museum is housed in a former grain store, which forms part of the area's historic ironworks environment.

Borgviks Bruk AB was not only an ironworks but also an important agricultural estate, with a large dairy herd and extensive grain production.

From Grain Store to Museum

The building that now houses the museum was originally used as a grain store and for drying grain. Wood shavings and other waste materials were transported from the sawmill on the other side of the river to the boiler house next to the building. From there, warm air was blown into the basement of the grain store to dry the grain.

In connection with Billerud's 100th anniversary in 1983, the former grain store was converted into a museum. At the time, the museum featured an exhibition about forests and forestry.

The Journey of Iron – From Forest to Finished Product

Today, a permanent exhibition on the museum's second floor tells the story of iron and its journey from the forest to the finished product. Smaller and changing exhibitions are also displayed on the first floor.
