Experience Ørje locks in beautiful, atmospheric light!
The locks in the Haldenkanalen were previously illuminated with powerful lighting to be able to carry out safe locking of timber and boats both in spring and autumn. During the renovation of the lock facilities in recent years, parts of the lighting system were taken down to improve accessibility to the lock facilities. New lighting is now in place, and the locks in Ørje are now illuminated with colors that give the locks an atmospheric expression. All three lock chambers, the walkway, the lifting systems for the opening mechanism of the gate hatches, the bauta by Engebret Soot and two walls of the lock master's residence are illuminated in an atmospheric light that illuminates the autumn and winter darkness.
The lights have been installed by Fagerhult Norway and provide indirect lighting in the locks to provide orientation and safety for visitors. RGBW is multi-coloured LED light with the colors red, green and blue as well as white light, which together can create colorful, creative and atmospheric installations, but also provide a clean and neutral white light. In October, the locks are lit up in pink to mark the Pink Bow campaign and in November they are lit up in blue to draw attention to the Movember campaign, which focuses on men's health.
Ørje locks are crossed by a public road just a few meters from the lock facility. With the lighting that has now been done, the lock facility will receive increased attention, and former Riksantikvar Jørn Holme's claim that the Haldenkanalen is one of the "19th century cathedrals" will gain further weight and historical sus.
